Deep

Deep

Deep is love, deep is not mere infatuation

It’s commitment, not ‘fairweather-friendin’ every opportunity or situation

Blind-eyed to the truth

Embracing the lie

But the materialistic consumption of goods

Can’t fill the void that’s inside

I discuss the important

But still, all the while

I hunger for frivolities

The weak and defiled

I pretend that I’m deep

We cherish the vapid while ignoring the names

Of the people who give the most who desire no fame

They desire no praise

Service is all they want most

Their capacity to love is greater than those

Individuals who need attention but offer no embrace

No peace, no advancement, nothing positive in this space

We pretend that we’re deep

Deep is love, deep is not mere infatuation

It’s commitment, not ‘fairweather-friendin’ every opportunity or situation

It’s standing “ten-toes” deep for everything you believe

It’s uplifting thy neighbor because we all win when one achieves

But…

That’s probably just rainbows and unicorns

In this land filled with snakes

A wives’ tale I tell my soul

To provide respite from the hate

This world is so shallow

There’s no need to debate.

We need change. Right now—tomorrow’s too late.
